  1. Dusty says:

I could write a fucking thesis on Kaepernick, but I’m just going to touch on the pertinent points, and I go both ways on this too.

First and foremost, he was absolutely in his right to sit his ass down during the national anthem. You guys well know the 1st Amendment protects his rights to protest. The government can’t arrest him for it, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to put up with him. In terms of getting attention, it sure as hell has worked. The second time anyway.

My biggest problem with all this is the sheer level of hypocrisy involved. He’s talking about oppression against black people. I don’t like to bring race into too many arguments, but since he started it with a comment about race, I’m going to. First of all, he’s half black, and was adopted by a white family. So, there’s that. Second, in 2014 he signed a $126 million dollar contract over 6 years, and guaranteed $13 million. That’s $126,000,000. That’s a lot of fucking zeros to be oppressed over.

Secondly, or thirdly if you’re actually counting, he absolutely doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I don’t want to inundate this post with numbers and actual facts, so I’ll leave it at…no. He has no idea what he’s talking about.

The good news is now he’s kneeling to show more respect for former and current military. So there’s that. Now there’s a soccer player, Megan Rapinoe, doing the same. So there’s that too.

As for the flag…well, I’m going to give you a quote from my grandfather. “Go for money. If she’s ugly, just throw a flag over her face and do it for Old Glory.”
